As cliche and not original as this is, my heart has been overflowing with gratitude lately, especially after this last weekend.
I have decided to take some time each day and give some real thought into something specific I am grateful for each day. I plan to do this until Thanksgiving Day.
Can you even believe it's November already?!
Today and this whole weekend, I'm feeling so grateful for electricity, my "home", and my husband. I hope you have kept updated on this storm. This city and the east coast need all the prayers and help they can get. I have so many emotions and thoughts about all of this that I don't even know how to correctly and fully express myself. I plan to do an in depth post later on our experience in hurricane Sandy.

A silent New York City |
I'm grateful for a hot shower, clean water, a charged phone to stay in touch with those I love, a safe husband, windows, shelter, my bed, and safe friends here in the city. So many in the city are hurting so much from this storm. I wish we could take all of them in and make it go away. The feelings I felt after walking around our island the morning after the storm are indescribable. Yeah, it was fun and exciting, and we escaped the worst being on the island, but being here to experience this is something I'll never forget and never wish upon anyone. I felt a rush seeing the flooding, the trees ripped out of the ground. the debris covering every foot of where we walk. But the sadness I felt for the small scale damage that had happened to our beautiful island made me feel so much heartache for those who lost their homes, cars, neighborhoods, and even family members.
Did you have any loved ones experience the storm? How has Sandy made you more grateful? I'd love to hear your thoughts.
Today while working on the phones for Jetblue I talked to a woman in New Jersey who was sitting in a line of cars for over an hour to get gas. So many gas stations were closed or had run out of gas. She needed more for her generator and car but they were each only allowed 30 dollars of gas which doesn't go far these days! Especially back east. Talked to another woman who was in a hotel because her home was flooded and she needed her money back to her credit card to pay for fixing her home. I was able to waive their fees and give them refunds and I am so grateful I was in a position to help them in that tiny way.
ReplyDeleteThat's so nice to be able to help people out like that!
DeleteBut mostly I am grateful that you and Derek are safe!
ReplyDeleteYou guys have been in our thoughts and prayers. I'm so happy you were blessed and kept safe. My brother and sister in law just moved to NYC 2 months ago. They live in midtown and are fortunately safe as well. It breaks my heart to hear about the devastation that has occurred to so many. Stay strong NYC! xoxo
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Adriana. It means so much. I'm so glad your brother and sister in law are safe! I didn't realize they moved out here! How fun. Maybe that means you guys should follow :)
